Added Red Cross Katrina Dog Ear 05Sep05 | 0

Brian Alvey created these very cool and easy to install “dog ears” for your blog/website… you can install them quickly, just insert the JS somewhere in your website.

I’ve added them to this site, and you may hotlink the image from my webserver, http://www.thejosher.com/red-cross.gif

Ad-Shirt 01Sep05 | 0

The Student World Assembly is giving away the “Ad Shirt” free of charge to anyone who signs up. A sponsoring company will purchase the right to advertise on the Ad-shirts. The more the participants that sign up to wear the Ad-Shirt, the more money the SWA will be able to raise to raise awareness of HIV/Aids.

This is a really neat idea.. and for a good cause as well. I’ve signed up, and you should too ;) How hard is it to wear a shirt for one day?

CNN’s Hurricane Katrina safe list 01Sep05 | 14

This site is run by CNN.com and is a list of many people who escaped Katrina but can’t get a hold of their family.

People can add their information to the list by emailing name, hometown, where they are currently, and contact information to hurricanevictims@cnn.com

I’m not sure how much use it will be, as I’m sure internet and electricity is out around much of that area.. but I’m sure it will help someone :)
Good job CNN.

Free Ipod! (Yes, Again) 30Aug05 | 2

OK.. so instead of begging you to signup like everyone else does, I’m going to post it and leave it at that.

www.ipods.freepay.com

I did the Real Rapshody offer, it was free.. and just remember to cancel your account before they bill you :)

It is real, and the mother company (Gratis) is in the BBB. The hard part is, you have to get five other people to signup under you. So there.. I’ve spammed my ref link on my own blog :)

Baptized :) 30Aug05 | 3

I was baptized last Sunday :)

Very hectic day… didn’t get home till almost 10PM :P

First, church service, then we ate lunch at the church, then went over to one of the member’s house who had a pool, did the baptism, played at/in the pool for a little while, went back to church for dinner/cookout, then by the time we completed that is was time for the Sunday evening service, which ran long..

Cursive, useless or not? 23Aug05 | 1

It is my view, that cursive is useless. Why? Well…

What benifit does cursive have over hand-printing, or typing? Its faster than hand-printing, right? Well, the time you save writing cursive, you actually lose more trying to read it. Its a lot harder to read, and many people can’t even read their own cursive.

So, whats left? Cursive is prettier than hand-printing? Yes and no. I’ve seen a lot of people that print really really fine, and I think looks a whole let better than cursive. And even still, a nicely typed letter in Verdana or something is a whole lot more refreshing to my eyes than trying to make out someones scrawl ;)

Why not cursive?

For starters, why do we need three forms of writing? Printing, cursive, and typing? I mean in school when poor little Johnny finally gets printing down half-way decent, you go and tell him “No no no no, you have to stop writing like this and start a whole new way of writing”. Then when he finally gets cursive down, its off that to typing.

I really think that cursive is archaic, and no longer is usefull. I can type way faster than I can write in cursive.. and its actually legible when I type ;)

I think the only place cursive has is in signatures, and even that is getting replaced. Some people sign their name more or less in print, and sooner or later we’ll have RFID cards that will sign everything electronically for us :P

Ok, sorry for the rant.. I’m just a bit agaited at the moment. (My mom is getting on me because I don’t write cursive well :P)

So, can anybody find a reason why cursive is useful? I can’t. Just another thing to waste time learning, and probably by the time I’m in college nobody will even use it. Even now cursive is being slowly removed from classrooms.

Go typing!

Stock Images :: Where to find them? 21Aug05 | 2

In addition to colors and styling with CSS, images really really make a good design good. Finding the images can be hard though, and thats why there are sites out there that have a nice selection of stock photos to chose from. Most of the time these photos are royalty free, and can be used however you want :)

A couple good stock photo sites:
Dreamstime.com — this one is paid, but, sometimes you simply cant find the photos you’re looking for at other free stock photo sites. That said, prices are really really good — just a $1 per photo!

StockExchange is my absolute favorite free stock photo site. All the photos there are user submitted, and are all reviewed before being posted on the site, so for the most part are high quality. Very very nice selection to chose from.

FreeFoto is decent as well, but unfortunatly you can only use the images for private, non-commerical work. But still, if you need a nice desktop background to inspire you while working on that killer website, this is the place to get it, free!

Favorite so far:

I have to do the soundsystem all by my lonesome 17Aug05 | 0

Well, for the last couple weeks I’ve been learning how to run the soundsystem at my church, and now the main guy before me is going away for a week, and I’ll have to do it. I’ll have to do it both on Saturday when we’re going to have some guest singers coming up, and then for worship on Sunday. It’ll be interesting.. I’ve never done it myself before.

Its not that hard though, basically all I have to do is switch the songs on either the worship DVDs we have, or use a computer program to display the lyrics of a song off a cd or something. And of course, get all the mics setup, and adjust the volume and EQ on them.

I hope it goes well :)

Get a free iTunes song download! 12Aug05 | 7

This is really sweet,
Just enter your email address here (use a spair hotmail or yahoo address, as they probably will spam you).

They’ll send you a confirmation email (may take a while), click the link, and they’ll send you an iTunes code good for one free song :)

This does work, and I just got mine. Very very easy and painless.

Free call-in Amazon price checker! 02Aug05 | 1

Ever been to your local bookstore, saw a really nice book, but thought, I know this is probably cheaper online. Well, know you can find out the exact price of virtually any book via the new Amabuddy.com. Really really neat idea, you call their toll-free number, and you enter in the ISBN number for the book, it checks amazon.com for the price, and announces it to you :)

Just thought I’d spread the word ;)

blah

This is just my random blog. I'll post any random stuff from my life that may or may not be worth sharing, along with any projects I'm working on, interesting sites/articles I stumble across on the web, etc. I kind of forsake it for a couple months.. but hopefully I can keep up with it and blog at least semi-regularly now.
