I finally won on Blingo! 03Jan07 | 1

Wohoo. I woke up this morning to an email from Blingo, saying that someone I refered to blingo had won a prize, and I did too! So I now have a $25 amazon gift certificate :D

I signed up last year and kinda forgot about it, but did refer a few friends. Looks like they’ve been busy :)

So, excuse me while I hunt around on Amazon for something nice to buy. :)

September 11, 2001: What They Saw 11Sep06 | 6

I just found this video and finished watching it. It’s firsthand camcorder footage out of an apartment window just 500 yards from the north tower of the WTC. Very very emotional. So emotional that those who shot it didn’t release it in until just today.

Video after the break.

Miscarriage, Contacts, DSL 23May06 | 6

Well.. my mom had her first miscarriage a couple weeks ago. I’ve been meaning to blog about it, but just haven’t had time. The good news is, it was basically a birth defect.. not anything wrong with Mom, and that it’s not something likely to happen again. If somehow the baby did make it, it would have been severly deformed. So I suppose in that way it was a blessing.

Now, for some good news:
We’re finally getting DSL! Sprint dropped the price of a 1.5mbps DSL line to $24.95 as long as you have the service, so we jumped on it. I just got the modem via UPS, and am waiting for 6:00PM tommorow when it is supposed to be activated.

I’ve been loving my contacts.. 1,000x better than glasses. The only problem I’ve had is that my eyes are slightly red. I think this is a combination of my eyes getting used to the contacts and the outragous levels of pollen that we’ve had lately.

Anyhow, that’s all for now. Expect a possible new site/revamping once I get DSL up and running ;)

Mom is pregnant, I’m getting contacts, and a haircut. 24Apr06 | 10

(… almost three weeks after they were supposed to come in)

Tomorrow I finally am heading out to the optometrist to try on my trial lenses and everything. No more ugly glasses for me ;)

I’m also getting my hair cut.. although I don’t even know how I want it cut. I’m thinking either the “messy look” or something spiked. Either way, I need it.

And we just found out on Saturday that my mom is pregnant. Again. With number 11. Yikes. She’s guessing she’s maybe two months along, so we might be having a November baby :) Name suggestions are welcome ;) I’ll also let you know once we find out the gender.

I need just one more referral at freepay.. 21Mar06 | 7

Yeah. Sorry to spam this again, but I need another referral at ipods.freepay.com. Just one more! And I have to get it before the “time is up” on the 30th of next month. (The offer has to be credited and such by then. And since sometimes it takes a week or two for offers to show up, I need to hurry up!)

So.. any kind soul out there that would signup and complete an offer for me? http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=21367663

I’ll be forever greatful, and place a permant link to your site (if you have one) from my blog if you wish.

(And yes, I do already have an iPod. But since I’ve already worked so hard for this.. it’d be a shame for it to go to waste. Plus, it’d make a great gift for a birthday a friend of mine is having next month…)

How to install Rockbox on your iPod. 25Feb06 | 15

UPDATE: This post has long since gone by the wayside. To install rockbox, go to Rockbox.org and get the instructions straight from their site. It’s much easier now. :)

For those that don’t know, Rockbox is a great little custom firmware program for your iPod. It sports many cool features, including backdrops, customizable themes, gapless playback, plugins (read: games, among others), 5-band EQ, etc.

Because someone asked for a fool-proof install instructions, and the forum was consistantly breaking the links, I thought I’d post this here.

1. Download this and this. And the actual bootloader for Nano, 4G greyscale, or 5G video capable iPod. Save all files to C:\rockbox (Create that folder)

2. Go here, save the contents of the script to install.bat, and place in your C:\rockbox folder.

3. Double click the install.bat file, and let it run. This should have installed the bootloader.

4. Now, all thats left is to put the actual rockbox software on. This is the easy part. Go to this page, and download the latest daily build for your model. Then simply unzip the contents to your iPods hard drive.

Things to double check if you have trouble,
1. Make sure your iPod has disk use enabled
2. If the .bat isn’t working, try the manual instructions here

So there you have it.

Ziggy is dead. 19Feb06 | 6

Yeah.

Just got back from Church.. and just found out that my pet cockatiel, Ziggy, got murdered (ok, killed) by my little brother. He shut the door on his neck, thus breaking it.

Poor thing :(

Powell family: breaking cash registers everywhere! 02Feb06 | 2

Well, this was just too funny.. so I thought I’d post it.

This morning my mom did the bi-weekly shopping this morning.. and as you can imagine, it amounts to quite a lot when you’re shopping for a family of 12. This morning it happened to ring up at about $700.

Now, heres the funny part: the machine couldn’t take it! At $600 it froze up - displaying a “too many items” error. So, she tried to just complete it, but it wouldn’t work. She had to unbag the 3 carts full of grocerys already rang up and check it out again. This time they split it between a few different transactions.

As you can imagine, it took me a while to unload and put away all the grocerys :P My Dad’s whole mini-pickup truck was filled.

This is just my random blog. I'll post any random stuff from my life that may or may not be worth sharing, along with any projects I'm working on, interesting sites/articles I stumble across on the web, etc. I kind of forsake it for a couple months.. but hopefully I can keep up with it and blog at least semi-regularly now.
