UPDATE: This post has long since gone by the wayside. To install rockbox, go to Rockbox.org and get the instructions straight from their site. It’s much easier now.
For those that don’t know, Rockbox is a great little custom firmware program for your iPod. It sports many cool features, including backdrops, customizable themes, gapless playback, plugins (read: games, among others), 5-band EQ, etc.
Because someone asked for a fool-proof install instructions, and the forum was consistantly breaking the links, I thought I’d post this here.
1. Download this and this. And the actual bootloader for Nano, 4G greyscale, or 5G video capable iPod. Save all files to C:\rockbox (Create that folder)
2. Go here, save the contents of the script to install.bat, and place in your C:\rockbox folder.
3. Double click the install.bat file, and let it run. This should have installed the bootloader.
4. Now, all thats left is to put the actual rockbox software on. This is the easy part. Go to this page, and download the latest daily build for your model. Then simply unzip the contents to your iPods hard drive.
Things to double check if you have trouble,
1. Make sure your iPod has disk use enabled
2. If the .bat isn’t working, try the manual instructions here
So there you have it.
